Software PSW

The PSW basic programming software is part of the standard delivery package for the UMG 96S, UMG 503, UMG 505, UMG 507 and ProData® instruments free of charge. On one hand, this software enables simple and complete parameterisation of the respective measurement instruments and on the other hand, allows the measurement value memory of the unit (if available) to be read out.

The optional PSW professional software enables an even more simple processing of the data.

The PSW professional software allows online presentation of measurement values, topology views, the analysis of historical data and data management with various databases etc.

PSWbasic vs. PSWprofessional - What are the differences?

The PSW basic programming software which is included in the standard delivery package offers on one hand, simple and complete parameterisation of the respective measurement instruments and on the other hand, allows the measurement value memory of the unit (if available) to be read out. The data are recorded in PSW basic as .txt documents and can be reprocessed in MS Excel.

The PSW professional software which is available as an option enables specific visualisation of the energy supplies in the topology view by the customer. With the online presentation, measurement data can be directly noted on the PC. The convenient options of the presentation and analysis of historical data from the database makes PSW professional software indispensable.

The automatic ring buffer readout and integrated data management has a particularly positive effect in projects with an average to a large number of measuring instruments as data can be stored in various database formats. The data are stored chronologically in a database for each measurement parameter. For smaller project parameters, the supplied ODBC ACCESS database driver, which is standard in Windows, can be used. The use of a MySQL database is recommended for projects with more than 10 instruments. The measurement data is directly utilised from the databases and is graphically presented in the software or converted into energy costs. Two different scales (i.e. different units) can be displayed per graph. Up to 8 graphic windows can be operated simultaneously.

Main features

The PSW basic/professional system software allows the programming, readout and visualisation of measuring instruments, data loggers and power factor controllers of Janitza electronics® GmbH.

  • Visualisation of measurement values
  • Administration of up to 255 measuring instruments per project
  • Freely selectable number of projects
  • Automatic ring buffer readout from the instruments
  • Online collection and recording of measurement values for instruments without an internal memory
  • DDE data exchange for the display of actual values in MS Excel or visualisation
    (external OPC server is necessary)
  • Storage of data in an ACCESS or MySQL databas
  • Conversion of the data in ASCII format
  • Integrated measurement value manager for up to 40 cost centres
  • MS Excel macros available free of charge
  • Configurable topology view with freely selectable register levels
  • Configuration of measurement instruments within the analysis software
  • The software supports the following languages: German/English/Spanish/Turkish/Dutch and Chinese

Applications

The PSW professional software has a multitude of applications. Here are some examples:

  • Convenient programming of measurement instruments
  • The development of extensive energy management systems
  • Visualisation of energy supplies with the help of a topology view
  • Automatic data readout and archiving
  • Cost centre management i.e. simple and precise calculation of electricity costs
  • Stabilisation of energy supplies with alarm functions if limit values are exceeded e.g. overvoltage or short-term interruptions
  • Improvement of power quality e.g. harmonic analysis for root cause analysis
  • Load profile analysis e.g. consumption forecast for electricity contract negotiations

Presentation of measurement data

Presentation of measurement data

The PSW professional software differentiates between the so-called online and off-line presentation of measurement data. Two forms of presentations are available for online presentation. The first option is the topology overview. Any background in .jpg format can be loaded e.g. a scheme of the existing energy distribution.

The measurement instruments can now be distributed on this scheme using their actual locations and the selected measurement data can be displayed online. Any limit value excesses are shown in colour. The status of inputs and outputs can also be displayed.

The topology overviews enable a quick overview of the complete energy network with the possibility of localising power faults, such as harmonic producers, by comparing the individual measurement points and enable the user to check the defined tolerances at a glance.

The second option for online presentation is the graphic line recorder function. Selected measurement values can be monitored online. The graph is continuously extended with new measurement data. Up to 1000 measurement values can be recorded in a graph. The oldest values are deleted.

DDE server and data exchange

Instruments with a measurement value memory can either be read out manually or at automatic intervals. Online values can also be directly recorded in the stipulated database. Actual measurement values can be transferred directly into MS Excel using a DDE server.

Data analysis with MS Excel macros

In order to be able to offer an affordable solution, e.g. for cost centre analysis, Janitza electronics® GmbH offers customer specific MS Excel solutions. An expensive process control solution is, therefore, superfluous. Most measurement data in Janitza products are also available as an MS Excel macro or in the MS Excel function.

These macros collect the respective measurement data from the database provided by the PSW professional software and incorporate it in the MS Excel document. The time periods, for example, are now entered and the respective consumptions, costs or graphs are issued. All MS Excel instruments are available for creating the MS Excel document. The MS Excel macro is incorporated in MS Excel as an add-in.

System requirements

The software can be operated with Windows 2000/Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems. The recommended system requirements are:

  • PC Pentium with 1.6Ghz and beyound
  • 512 MByte main memory
  • Approx. 20MB hard drive space for the main program
  • Approx. 1MB hard drive space per month per unit for the storage of 10 measurement parameters per unit in a MySQL database
  • 19” colour monitor with a resolution of 1280 x 1024
  • Graphic card with min. 64MB
  • CD Rom drive
  • Ethernet interface
  • USB or RS232 interface

Gateway function

Using the Modbus gateway function, UMG types without an Ethernet interface (e.g. UMG 503, UMG 96S) can also be read out through the Ethernet network. You only require a UMG 507E, EP or a UMG 510. The UMG 96S, for example, is connected to the RS485 interface of this unit as a slave. This means that up to 31 units can be linked using the UMG 507E/EP or UMG 510.
